Now I am NOT a fan of South Indian basics (such as Dosa, Idli, Medu Vada, etc.) but I just realised or a while back atleast that I can make some crazy ass Dosas which is why I have made them yet again.
Now Masala Dosa is basically a Dosa with Aloo (potato) sabji/filling inside of it. This time around I made the Dosa a little spicy. So i added cumin seeds and a little spices within the batter. Pretty good I must say. But while making them I think I got them a little thick in the center. They tasted kind of heavy because of that. Although, mom managed to eat two and a half and Dad had three. Woohoo! There is a whole lot of batter left which I am going to use and feed my sister this Sunday.
The Aloo filling was a basic jeera aloo kind of mix with a little tomato for flavouring and spices ofcourse. It necessarily had to be a bit bland as Mom isn’t well and couldn’t eat spicy food. So I indulged her and made it that way. It still was a little spicy because I added a few green chillies. But it wasn’t that bad.
Finally the chutney. Now I’m sorry I can do only this much. Which is why I asked dad to buy readymade chutney into which I added Buttermilk (chhaas). The chutney was not bad but it would have been better if I knew how to make it fresh.
Simple food and yummy. That’s the plan for this One Month of Cooking.
FOOD REVIEW – Dosa and masala sabji was nice. Dosa a little heavy and maybe raw because of its thickness. Not too spicy but not even very South Indian-ny. Chutney was typical Udipi style.
OVERALL – 6.5/10
PS – I may not blog post tomorrow. Not just because it is Sunday but also because I am not cooking neither are we ordering. There is a whole bunch of food remaining from the week. Plus I am going to my brother’s for dinner. NOT that he is cooking either!!!
Happy Weekend folks!
